Garden & Play

About

the garden & outdoor activities

We have a very large outdoor area which all ages access! We have two swings which are always popular. In addition to developing their motor skills, children often use this area to socialize and to make up stories and songs with each other. We also have baby swings for our younger children to enjoy. We have a large slide and a baby slide which promotes physical development and problem solving. We even have a mud kitchen! Children use their imagination and can bring different ideas to the outdoor space. They can bring natural resources such as flowers or mud or grass, and can create their own ideas of play.

We use all of our senses outdoors, we go on mini beast hunts; we watch birds and we also feed them; we plant herbs and flowers and have also grown our own vegetables. Currently we are cultivating strawberries, lettuce, peas and carrots.

The latest addition to our garden is a Hedgehog House.

We also enjoy going for walks around the local area.

We often have trips to Preston Park to have a picnic and to the railway station to watch the trains go by.

We have created an outdoor seating area based around a fire pit, offering lots of opportunities for toasting marshmallows, summer barbecues and keeping snug in the winter
